Sometimes you'll download something (perhaps via bittorrent) and find that instead of the file you wanted, your folder is full of .001 .002 .003 or .r01 .r02 .r03 files. These files are part of a split rar archive. Much like a zip file, a rar file is a compressed version of what you downloaded.
